Schedules for the 2020 football regular season are now available for all participating schools.
District and group assignments were posted in February, following Board of Control approval. This arrangement is in place for just one year, as opposed to the usual two-year football cycle.
Class 4A has also implemented a success model for its group format and regular season scheduling.
Regular season football schedules are determined by the IHSAA. Regular season schedules for all other IHSAA sports are determined by member schools and their conferences.
Districts and groups are assigned by the IHSAA, then schools select preferred non-district opponents through a priority list. The IHSAA attempts to align schedules with as many priority list selections as possible, however opponents and availability cannot be guaranteed.
Schedules, organized by classification and alphabetically by team, can be viewed through the links below.
Games listed “vs.” are home. Games listed “at” are away.
Practice is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 10. Playing dates are Fridays, but subject to change for Thursdays or Saturdays depending on host school and site availability. Regular season playing dates and their corresponding weeks are below.
Schools interested in moving their Week 4 contests from Friday to Thursday due to a college football conflict (Iowa at Minnesota, Sept. 18, time TBD) should contact the IHSAA regarding the change.
Week 1: August 28
Week 2: September 4
Week 3: September 11
Week 4: September 18
Week 5: September 25
Week 6: October 2
Week 7: October 9
Week 8: October 16
Week 9: October 23
Classifications are determined by enrollment. Schools competing with cooperative agreements have their enrollments totaled. The Iowa Department of Education’s BEDS document from 2019-20 (for 2020-21) can be viewed HERE.
