The Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union announces the thirteenth year of the “New Administrators/Athletic Director’s Workshop” to be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at the IHSAA Office in Boone. Registration will begin at 8:00 AM and the workshop will conclude at 3:30 PM. There will be no cost for the workshop. Lunch and workshop materials are included.
This workshop is in collaboration with the Iowa High School Athletic Director’s Association and its main objective is to help prepare the new administrator/athletic director through their first year on the job. This year’s workshop will feature presentations from IHSAA/IGHSAU staff as well as veteran athletic directors from around the state.
In addition to this one day workshop, the IHSAA and IGHSAU are excited to announce a pre-workshop option to be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at the IHSAA Office in Boone, beginning at 6:30 PM. All participants are able to take the LTC Course 501 at no charge. There is normally a $150 fee to take a course. LTC course 501 serves as an overview for interscholastic athletic administrators. This course introduces the philosophy of educational athletics then focuses on the roles of the NIAAA, the NFHS, the State Athletic/Activity Associations, and the IHSAA and IGHSAU.
If you have hired a new athletic director this year or in the past year that has little athletic director experience, we recommend that you send them to this one-day workshop. Also, any new high school principal or superintendent is also welcome to attend. Please find enclosed three brochures about the workshop. Once your registration is received, an e-mail confirmation will be sent.
We hope that your new administrator/athletic director will be able to attend this workshop. We are confident it will be a great opportunity to pick up valuable information to help a new administrator/athletic director begin their new career. If you have any questions regarding the workshop or registration; please contact Todd Tharp at the IHSAA office at 515-432-2011.
