TRUSTWORTHINESS
IHSAA December
Always act in way that justifies other peoples trust in you. Teach your athletes the meaning and importance of trustworthiness.
Integrity: Teach and model the importance of integrity by doing the right thing even when the cost is high.
DO: Stand up for your beliefs. Follow your conscience. Be honorable and upright. Live by your principles not matter what others say. Have the courage to do what is right and to try new things even when it is hard and costly. Build and guard your reputation. Admit your mistakes.
DON'T: Do anything that you know is wrong. Lose heart if you fail and don't get what you want.
Honesty: Be honest and demand honesty from others.
DO: Tell the truth and nothing but the truth. Be sincere. Be forthright and candid.
DON'T: Lie. Cheat. Steal. Be sneaky, tricky, or deceptive.
Reliability: Impress upon your athletes the importance of keeping commitments. If it is absolutely impossible to keep a commitment, apologize to the people who were depending on you.
DO: Keep your promises. Honor your word and commitments. Be dependable. Return what you borrow. Pay your debts. Be on time.
Loyalty: Teach your players to be loyal to the team. Impress upon them that the team can accomplish much more than any of its individuals alone can.
DO: Be a good friend. Look out for those who care about you. Keep secrets of those who trust you.
DON'T: Betray a trust. Let your friends hurt themselves. Do something just so others will like you. Ask a friend to do anything wrong or spread gossip that could hurt others.
